BAF Knifeworks

Hand-crafted Knives from the Black Hills

Show Schedule

BAF evolved in 1982 when Bruce A. Frye moved to Newcastle, Wyoming, the "Western Gateway to the Black Hills."
However Bruce's fascination with sharp objects started when he was about 6 years old. His uncle Jim bought him his first pocket knife, then later gave him the single bladed knife that his mother "wouldn't let him have."
All the materials used to create our knives are native to the Black Hills of South Dakota. We use deer, elk and antelope antler and bone. The woods we use are cedar, sage brush, lilac oak and aspen. The metals used in the blades are old tool steel, files, planer blades and saw blades. The guard metals are antique silverware, brass and copper.
